Ras
al-Khaimah (historically known as "Julfar")
Literally "The Top of the Tent," RAK is one of the emirates of the United
Arab Emirates. Located in the southern part of the Gulf, Ras Al Khaimah
is nestled between the Hajjar Mountains on the East and the Gulf on the
West and shares mountainous borders with the Sultanate of Oman. It’s ideally
located to service and access markets that cover the Middle East, Africa,
the Indian subcontinent, and the CIS countries.
Since 1948, RAK’s political system has been headed by ruler HH Sheikh
Saqr Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, providing 58 years of stable political governance.
Assisted by Deputy Ruler and crown prince HH Sheikh Saud Bin Saqr Al Qasimi,
the leader of RAK is dedicated to developing a highly business-friendly
environment. Under the able leadership of these men, the Emirate has
fostered the growth of myriad world-class businesses that compete successfully
in numerous markets around the globe.
The RAK economy is unique in that it has minimal dependence on oil.
Thanks to run-off water from the Hajar Mountains, RAK has an abundance of
flora; agriculture plays an important role in the Emirate’s economy. The
Emirate is also extremely picturesque and blessed with a moderate climate
in winter, making it an ideal tourist destination. Further, the mineral
resources of the Emirate render it globally competitive in industries like
cements and ceramics, in turn providing a significant manufacturing presence
here.
